The chapter earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in spring 2013 and received a Special Achievement in Philanthropy award for their philanthropy actions taking place that year, which exceeded that of every other chapter.

The chapter earned a 4 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in spring 2012 and earned achievement awards in philanthropy (presented to chapters that raise over $60 per member), community service (presented to chapters that complete over 20 service hours per member), and academics (presented to chapters that have an average GPA above 3.4).

Sig Ep has consistently been one of the top fundraisers for Relay for Life. The chapter has traditionally partnered with Delta Gamma for the event; in 2012 the team raised $5,421 and in 2013 they raised $6,104.

Service & Philanthropy

  • Every year Sig Ep hosts two “Red Parties” to raise funds for YouthAIDS. YouthAIDS is an HIV/AIDS fundraising and awareness campaign of PSI targeting young people aged 15-24. These events are tremendously successful; the fraternity raises upwards of $2000 for the cause with the support of hundreds of Columbia students.
  • Sig Ep at Columbia has a strong tradition of commitment to service. The chapter has worked with the Columbia administration to begin the Columbia Community Outreach program (CCO). COO is a major annual service event for the entire undergraduate community that incorporates dozens of service projects throughout the city. Sig Ep also regularly participates in Relay for Life, a day of community activities and games dedicated to funding cancer research. The Columbia chapter has raised over $5,000 in past years.
  • Sig Ep also works various other philanthropic endeavors throughout the year. In the 2012-2013 academic year, the chapter supported Engineers Without Borders, several New York area pre-schools, New York Cares, the Hunger Project, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
