The Alternative Break Program was founded in 2011 as an administrative partnership between the pre-existing group, Columbia Students for International Service, and the Office of Student Engagement. It has provided funding and support for individuals and recognized student groups for their service projects both domestically and internationally. It has worked with prominent student organizations including Engineers Without Borders, GlobeMed, Caribbean Students Association, AlterNATIVE, and Habitat for Humanity.
