Capital New York, or Capital for short, is a news website that reports on the politics, culture, media, and sports of New York City. It was created in summer 2010 by Tom McGeveran and Josh Benson, two veterans of The New York Observer. Its mission is to report on "how things work in New York"[1]. Naturally, it reports on Columbia, especially the J-school with some frequency.[2][3]

Many The Blue and White and Bwog partisans have found a home there. Eliza Shapiro is currently an education reporter for Capital, while Conor Skelding writes for their politics section and Peter Sterne works on their media desk. Avi Zenilman and Mark Hay have freelanced for the site. Jimmy Vielkind, a former Speccie, is the head of Capital's Albany bureau.

Of especial note are Eliza's longform story on Moodygate[4][5], her interview regarding Operation Ivy League[6], and Mark's piece about Columbia's global expansion[7].
