Bias News Coverage
Despite the fact that Columbia's Delta Gamma chapter is, tangibly speaking, one of the highest performing campus organizations in terms of the amount of money it raises for philanthropy, hours it dedicates to community service, employment help it offers members, and support it provides to fellow campus organizations, no campus news source has ever published an article detailing the positive ways in which DG contributes to society.

Campus news sources have never released a story about the fact that DG contributes more in terms of collective philanthropy donations and community service hours than nearly every other campus organization. (Ex: The chapter raised $6190.50 for Service for Sight at their fall 2013 Anchor Splash event. They also raised $6,104 with Sig Ep for Relay for Life in spring 2013.)

In February 2014 Bwog found pages from a DG new member packet in an unspecified printer. Despite the fact that all information in these pages is not only public but in fact publicized by the national organization, Bwog claimed to have "perused the shit out of" the pages because of an unexplainable obsession with the organization.

Delta Gamma, Zeta Theta chapter, is one of the sororities recognized by the Panhellenic Council. The chapter currently occupies a brownstone at 113th St. The sorority more commonly goes by its nickname DG.

In spring 2013 the chapter earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating and was awarded the ALPHA Standard’s Highest Achievement Award from the Inter Greek Council (along with Lambda Phi Epsilon) for outperforming every Greek organization on the standards, i.e. academics (high average GPA), community service (amount of total hours/ average hours per individual), campus involvement (amount of sisters involved in other campus activities), leadership development (amount of sisters in campus leadership positions), philanthropy (amount donated and scale of events hosted), housing behavior, and alumni information.

The chapter also earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in spring 2012, along with achievement awards in philanthropy (presented to chapters that raise over $60 per member), community service (presented to chapters that complete over 20 service hours per member), academics (presented to chapters that have an average GPA above 3.4), and campus involvement (presented to chapters where over 60% are involved in another campus activity.)

These were all of the awards that chapters could possibly receive that year.

DG has consistently been one of the top fundraisers for Relay for Life. The chapter has traditionally partnered with Sig Ep for the event; in 2012 the team raised $5,421 and in 2013 they raised $6,104.

In fall 2013 DG's annual "Anchor Splash" fundraising event raised $6190.50 for Service for Sight.

Out of the 147 Delta Gamma chapters nationwide, Columbia’s Zeta Theta chapter was listed as having the fourth highest GPA for fall 2013.

Service & Philanthropy

Delta Gamma’s philanthropic work is focused on Service for Sight. Service for Sight promotes sight preservation and provides aid to those who suffer from visual impairments.

The Delta Gamma Foundation has given over $3.15 million in Service for Sight grants to organizations and schools that share this mission. DG at Columbia donates funds, glasses, and audio books to programs that offer aid to those who suffer from visual impairments. It also hosts events each semester that raise money and awareness for Service for Sight.

Annual DG philanthropy events

 • In the fall DG hosts Anchor Splash. Anchor Splash is a night in which teams of Columbia fraternity men perform synchronized swimming routines and compete in relay races. Fall 2013's event raised $6190.50 for Service for Sight.
 • In the spring DG holds its annual Anchor Bake Sale, where it sells baked goods around campus. DG also hosts Delta Glam, which is a fashion show that features members of the Columbia Greek community. All proceeds go to Service for Sight.

In addition to supporting Service for Sight, DG also supports various other philanthropic organizations on campus and makes an effort to “Do Good” every day, as this is the sorority’s motto.
