Duke is the Princeton of the Confederacy. Appropriately for a school in North Carolina, its endowment was built with tobacco money. The appropriate demonym for someone associated with Duke is 'Dukie', pronounced "Dookie."
Despite having an excellent academic reputation, Duke is best known for having the most hated college basketball team in America, which in turn is coached by some guy with an unspellable and unpronounceable last name.
It would have been named the douchiest university in the US by GQ, but the magazine was loathe to let it be #1 at anything.
