The faculty of Columbia are the people who do the actual teaching and research at the university.
Ranks
The ranks of faculty include:
- Professor Emeritus
- University Professor
- Full professor
- Associate professor
- Assistant professor
- Adjunct professor
- Lecturer
- Instructor
Headcount
In the fall of 2008, Columbia employed 3,566 full-time faculty, comprising:
- 880 in the Arts and Sciences
- 497 in the professional faculties
- 2,189 in Health Sciences
In addition there are at least 70 instructors in physical education.
