First year housing

First Year Housing at Columbia is assigned to incoming CC/SEAS undergrads on the basis of indicated preferences, and roommates are assigned based on a rudimentary habit survey (are you noisy? messy? do you stay up late?) and any special requests. You'll need to go online and specify your preferences.

First Year Housing consists of 7 Options in 4 Buildings:

• Carman Hall, doubles
• John Jay Hall, singles and doubles
• LLC: Hartley Hall/Wallach Hall, singles and doubles
• Furnald Hall, singles and doubles

First Year Housing is considered to be among some of the best housing available to Columbia students. Given the right (unfortunate) set of circumstances, it's quite possible that you'll never live in accommodations as nice as you do during your first year.

Each dorm is located directly on the main Morningside Heights campus around South Lawn 'quadrangle' and has a distinct atmosphere and it's own advantages and disadvantages. While each dorm has an overriding stereotype, they're not necessarily entirely accurate.
