Jacques Pépin GS '70 MA '72 is a famous French chef who began his time at Columbia by taking language courses within weeks of first arriving in the US from France. He first earned his fame by developing a line of meals for Howard Jonson's restaurants while studying at Columbia, but he persisted in his studies by earning a masters degree in French literature.
