Sigma Delta Tau, Gamma Tau chapter, is one of the sororities recognized by the Panhellenic Council. The chapter currently occupies a brownstone at 540 W. 114th St. The sorority more commonly goes by its nickname SDT.

The chapter earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in both spring 2012 and spring 2013.

In spring 2013 the chapter was awarded Chapter of the Year by the Inter Greek Council. The chapter along earned achievement awards in philanthropy (presented to chapters that raise over $60 per member), community service (presented to chapters that complete over 20 service hours per member), academics (presented to chapters that have an average GPA above 3.4), and campus involvement (presented to chapters where over 60% are involved in another campus activity.)

These were all of the awards that chapters could possibly receive that year.

SDT has consistently been one of the top fundraisers for Relay for Life. The Columbia chapter raised $1,568 in 2012 and over $1,000 in spring 2013.

The current president is Brooke Gottlieb. Notable membership has included Christy Carlson Romano of Even Stevens and Remy Zaken of Spring Awakening.

Service & Philanthropy

Prevent Child Abuse America is Sigma Delta Tau’s National Philanthropy. It is a voluntary organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse through citizen action. PCAA America builds awareness, promotes and implements prevention efforts and works to ensure that every child has the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential. Each Sigma Delta Tau chapter conducts an annual service project, educational program, or major fund raising campaign for the benefit of PCAA. Together, the SDT collegiate chapters contribute more than 100,000 annually to this national Philanthropy.

Every fall, Columbia’s SDT chapter holds an annual fund raising event, Greek Beats, to support PCAA. Greek Beats is a talent show that Greek and non-Greek organizations take part in to help raise money for PCAA. Fall 2013 Greek Beats raised over $5,000.

In the spring, Columbia SDT holds their annual Eat Your Heart Out event. The event is held at Artopolis, where students can pay $5 for all-you-can-eat cupcakes. In spring 2013 “Eat Your Heart Out” raised $1,000 for PCAA.

In addition to PCAA, SDT at Columbia also supports Relay for Life, Columbia Community Outreach, and their Sister-to-Sister fund.
