According to C250, Beard supported the War, but resigned as an act of protest and solidarity with two professors who got sacked by the Trustees (who were on the warpath at the time, and Butler deftly stayed out of their way.)Absentminded 00:05, 29 November 2007 (EST)

Amended to better reflect this. Also: what was the department of public law? Another name for the law school, or something different entirely? Pacman 00:07, 29 November 2007 (EST)
Something different. It's an old department that I don't think exists anymore. Check out the Mark Van Doren Award for 1972. Also, David Truman apparently used to chair the department. Probably a predecessor to Poli-Sci. Will require further research. Absentminded 00:11, 29 November 2007 (EST)
Yup, apparently it was PoliSci. Pacman 00:18, 29 November 2007 (EST)
