Carnegie Mellon University is a science and technology-focused institution located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It's sort of like MIT, but worse; or maybe like a slightly better SEAS, but located in a much worse city. It's even literally overshadowed by the awe-inducing Cathedral of Learning at the neighboring University of Pittsburgh.

The school demonstrated its longing for presence in a superior burg by submitted proposals during the 2011 Applied Sciences NYC competition for new campus in New York City. Its proposal for Brooklyn Navy Yard lost, but since it was also part of the large NYU-led consortium of schools that proposed a Center for Urban Science and Progress in Downtown Brooklyn, it also kinda won.
