Effectively Columbia's subway station. It is on the 1 line, which runs local from South Ferry to Van Cortlandt Park-242nd Street. The next uptown station is 125th Street, and the next one downtown is Cathedral Parkway-110th Street.

The station is one of the few at which you can change from the uptown train to the downtown train without exiting.

It is said that William Barclay Parsons, CC'1879 and Chief Engineer of the IRT Subway project, purposely designed the Columbia station to be the nicest in the system.
Columbia has 3 undergraduate schools of its own and 1 affiliated college:
* Columbia College (CC), a coeducational liberal arts college of arts and sciences.
* School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), the engineering and applied sciences school, which is strongly integrated with CC
* School of General Studies (GS), the school for "nontraditional" students whose education has been interrupted and other students with unusual backgrounds, including students of JTS and UTS. GS students are generally older than those in CC and SEAS, have life experiences to match, and live in off-campus housing.
* Barnard College (BC), the women's college across the street from Columbia. It has an ambiguous relationship with Columbia and the three undergraduate schools. Barnard is an independent school in partnership with Columbia, and it has its own administration, faculty, student body, and campus. Columbia and Barnard students may take classes on both campuses, eat in each others' dining halls, and be part of each others' clubs and sports teams.
Seffi Kogen GS/JTS'14 is the current president of the Columbia/Barnard Hillel. He is a History major and is originally from Fair Lawn, New Jersey. Seffi has been involved in the leadership of Hillel since his first year on campus, ascending to the presidency at the beginning of 2013. He is responsible for managing student-staff relationships within Hillel and representing Hillel to the student body and administration.

Hillel Involvement
During his first year, Seffi served as the Director of Campus Affairs for LionPAC. In that role, he planned several events, including a panel on Iran moderated by Dean Awn. Seffi has also served on the leadership of Koach, Shabbat Meals Committee, and JelLO, among others. At the end of the Fall 2011 semester, Seffi was elected Vice President of Hillel for 2012. As VP, Seffi planned the first ever Hillel Night at a Columbia Men's Basketball game. At the conclusion of the Fall 2012 semester, Seffi was elected President. In his first semester as President, Seffi created the Grants so as to fund good ideas in the Jewish community.

Campus Involvement
Seffi has served on the Student-Faculty Committee of JTS since 2011 and on the Columbia Undergraduate History Council since 2012.

Writings
Seffi has been published several times on The Times of Israel, writing about Jewish identity and Israel advocacy.

John Jay Dining Hall is located on the first floor of John Jay Hall, a freshman residence hall. It is open Sunday to Thursday, 10:00am-1:30pm for brunch and 5pm-8pm for dinner. All first year students must have a meal plan, which they can use at John Jay.

John Jay has good vegan and vegetarian options as well as and edible kosher and halal options. Permanent food options include a salad bar, a pizza and pasta station, a desert station, and a sandwich station. Furthermore, there are also other dining options that change daily and for each meal: for example, cereal, waffles, and omelettes are available in the morning, but these are replaced by a grill and an action station (where a server prepares meals such as stir fry, burritos, or chili) for lunch and dinner.

John Jay is divided into three sections: the front dining hall, the kitchen in the middle, and the rear dining room (known as King's Table).

Until 2010, John Jay was Columbia's only full-service dining facility, in contrast to the many on-campus cafes. Despite its important role in (first-year) student life, the facility was unfortunately in very poor condition and long overdue for a renovation. The wood paneling in the main dining room had extensive damage and paint was flaking off the ceiling. The kitchen lacks an adequate ventilation system, resulting in suffocating heat in the summer.

Ferris Booth Commons was subsequently converted into a dining hall, along with JJ's Place. John Jay Dining Hall was renovated in 2011.
Trivia
*Actress Julia Stiles once caused controversy as a student by comparing workers in the dining hall to "mole people"
*Before 2008, when their use was discontinued, the trays used in the dining hall were filled with etchings containing witty sayings, and were often used as sleds in winter
Together with the University of Cambridge it is one of the two most elite universities in the UK, collectively known as "Oxbridge".

Oxford is the destination for Rhodes Scholars and is as such considered by Americans to be the best university in Britain, if not the world. Many in Britain, if not the world, fail to share this opinion. The British university league tables alternately rank the universities either in first or second place, adding to this confusion. The latest tables seem to favor Oxford.
As with Cambridge, Columbia has an agreement with Oxford allowing qualified students to spend their junior year studying there. Pinnacle served pizza, sandwiches, bagels, etc. Most items are cheap, and many are greasy. Pinnacle's biggest draws were probably its ultra-convenient location and the fact it's more or less always open.
During the subway strike of 2005 Pinnacle's owners forced its outer borough-dwelling employees to sleep in the store, lest they fail to show up the next day.
