CC Admissions
*I removed the part about regular decision because 8.9% is the total admission rate for CC. The RD rate is even lower.
*I removed the comparisons to Harvard and Yale because they're dishonest at best, and factually wrong at worst.
*Harvard and Yale (as well Princeton, Dartmouth, and Brown) all include their engineering students in their reported statistics. Granted, this is because engineering is a division in the university, and not a separate school. You just declare an engineering major when the time comes. You're admitted to the "college" in general when you apply.
*However, Penn and Cornell are similar to Columbia in respect to having a school of engineering with separate admissions processes. Even then, both include those statistics in their overall admissions (as well as all of their other divisions...)
*Therefore to use just CC's rate in comparison with other schools' overall rate is not a fair comparison, and amounts to dishonest self-aggrandizement (in my opinion). I hope this justifies my edits.
Okay, I tried. BTW, I think a closer relationship between WikiCU and CCT-- which just skipped a print edition and put it online-- is a definite possibility and I can talk to the editor, if you folks at WikiCu are interested? But only if you say so, I'm just a newbie here. Seems like a win-win situation to me. CCT contains a treasure trove of material which WikiCU would interlink and organize into a more coherent form than CCT can. If CCT, with its epic mailing list, did an article alerting the alumni to how much fun WikiCu is, it would encourage alumni to contribute their memories (about the notorious Lion's Den in John Jay Hall, for instance. For thirty years the Law School ran a mixer there every Friday night.) That kind of alumni participation, which leads to contributions to the endowment, is what CCT is all about.

The New York Yankees are the most overrated major league franchise of any sport in the world. Fans of the Yankees, among the most arrogant and insufferable people you'll ever have the misfortune of encountering, will often justify their boastful pride by citing the 26 World Series Championships won by the team, despite their likely not having been alive for more than 4. Tragically, pointing out that only 7 of those titles have been won in the 47 years of the expansion era, and other less than glorious facts do little to put these cretins in place.

The Yankees can be seen as a microcosm of white-collar New York City; flagrant extravagance, unbridled arrogance, extreme self-assurance, and the drive to win at all costs define the franchise.

As of 2009, it appears that, like their fanbase and natural allies in finance, their spending has caught up to them. Yankee Stadium has not sold out a single game, including Opening Day 2009.

The Yankees' location in New York mean that they are a member of 24-7 coverage by ESPN. As a result, if we were to rank the epicness of sports rivalries by ESPN coverage, "Joba's dad vs. Health" would make the top 10 of any list.

The Yankees are believed to have a long-standing rivalry with the Red Sox. Until recently, the Yankees had been shutting them out of World Series titles, though the Sox did score an epic come-from-behind win in 2004. However, signs point to this rivalry being more of a condition generated by said insufferable fanbase.
I'm not exactly sure how these discussion pages work. You wrote on mine and I replied, but I don't know if you got an email notification saying so.
The cited Harper's Weekly article is for sale on eBay. I read the relevant text from the slightly blurry JPGs included by the seller, and cited accordingly! Naturally, I have finals to be preparing for. I found it during a "I have nothing better to do" searches. Absentminded 18:16, 29 April 2008 (EDT)
Good article, but I don't think she's a stat professor. There's definitely a lot of overlap in the domains of "Mathematics and Economics" and Statistics, but she doesn't have any affiliation with the stat department and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't claim her. Jiabao 08:10, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
:Hm, her website lists her as "Professor of Statistics" and her office in Math was part of the Stats dept. Pacman 10:39, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
::I see where she claims that on her site, but maybe there's been some bureaucratic reshuffling. Stat dept offices are now in SSW. Eh, no big deal I guess. Jiabao 10:44, 27 October 2008 (EDT)
Sha Na Na
You seem to know a lot about Sha Na Na. Would you like to create an article about them? That way we would just link to it rather than explaining who they were on every page they're mentioned. Plus, it's an essential piece of Columbia history that's missing from here so far. Pacman 00:48, 28 May 2009 (EDT)

Sorry to take so long to reply. (If this is how one reaches you.) I will try, now that it's summer and I've got a moment for something beside work. I've never created an article from scratch, though, so may be some glitches. Sixth Floor Jay 19:15, 18 July 2009 (EDT)

Bizarre Columbia graduation requirement. Also found at other well-known schools, such as MIT. Perhaps it's the fame getting to their heads.

Schedule
The swim test is held 3 times per week:

* Friday 12pm-3pm
* Sunday 3pm-4pm
* Monday 8:30pm-9:30pm

If you are unable to take the swim test, contact Ken Torrey.

Theories for the Requirement
* Manhattan is an island.
* Justification for maintenance of a pool.
* Engineers can build boats.
* Some rich donor's child drowned. (False)

Training
The pool has open hours Monday through Friday 12-2pm, and 7-9:30pm, and 12-5 & 7-9 Saturday, 1-5, 7-9 Sunday. If individual instruction is needed consider joining lap swimming as a PE class, or contact a member of either the men's or women's Swimming Team who are qualified to teach swim lessons.

Trivia
*Mortimer Adler refused to take the swim test, and look what happened to him: he earned a Columbia doctorate, became a noted philosopher, and was even given an honorary BA by Columbia - six decades later
