Mini-fridges are a good way to keep food fresh (be the food mini or normal sized). Columbia has a size limit (2 cu ft) on the volume of the mini fridge, but this is rarely, if ever, enforced.

You can rent a fridge through the Blue Key Society/Cecil Distributors but those are old, dirty, and too cold (turning water bottles into ice). Buying a new fridge is only slightly more expensive than renting a fridge through Columbia for a year.

Always remember that mini-fridges never keep ice cream frozen, but occasionally do freeze the sides of water bottles that touch the ice maker.

600 West 113th Street, known in Columbia-speak as Nussbaum for its location above Nussbaum and Wu, is a residence hall that was converted from an apartment building in 2003. Floors 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 are occupied by undergraduates, while the upper half is occupied by UAH tenants and some private tenants. UAH tenants include graduate and General Studies students.

Facilities
Each floor has a central hallway and four suites, although many suite doors are left permanently open. Many of the A and D suites and the B and C suites have connecting doorways. All rooms have hardwood floors.

B and C suites share a large kitchen. A suites have smaller kitchens. D suites have very small kitchens.

There is a laundry room in the basement, but it only works with a smart card purchased in the lobby for approximately $5. The smart card machine only accepts cash. One wash or dry cycle costs $1.25 with the option of an addition $0.25 for a super cycle, which is more expensive than $1 cycles at other residence halls.

Rooms
* 46 doubles
* 47 singles
* 9 walk-through doubles

Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages
* Relatively nice entrance and hallways (bright and well-lit).
* 4:1 student to bathroom ratio.
* Friendly building staff. Maintenance goes through a superintendent, not Columbia, so it is handled fast.
* Convenient location near Broadway.
* Some rooms have private bathrooms.
* A7 and D2 line singles have private bathrooms.
* D1 and A1 line doubles have private bathrooms.
* Some suites have a lounge

Disadvantages
* Less social because the suitemates don't know each other, nor are all the rooms on a central hallway.
* You can't choose your suitemates.
* No building lounge.
* Suites share floors with graduate students and regular tenants, so noise must be kept at a minimum
* General sense of unattachment with Columbia community
* Lower floors infested with cockroaches
* Toilets get clogged easily and the building is aware of that, even keeps a plunger in almost every suite bathroom
* During the summer with AC units installed, building electricity supply is not enough since lights flicker and sometimes goes off for minutes before turning back on.
* Exposed ceiling pipes in some bathrooms
* The A1 line of walk through doubles only have one working Ethernet jack in each room which is a problem since the outer room is too small to fit more than one bed or two desks.
Co-sponsorships
Any club that includes SEAS students or wants to hold an event that will include SEAS students can apply for ESC co-sponsorship. Applications must be submitted by 6pm on Friday to be considered at the next ESC meeting. Email VP Intergroup Daniel Wong at [mailto:dsw2107@columbia.edu dsw2107@columbia.edu] for more info. Always fill the application out in full and with as much information as possible.

* Segregate all costs to avoid ambiguity:
: Instead of "Decorations & Food - $500", write "Decorations - $200, Food - $300".
* When asking co-sponsorship from CCSC, ESC, SGA and GSSC, always ask in ratio (3:1:2:0.9) unless you have a specific reason against asking in ratio.
: Instead of "ESC - $500, CCSC - $500", write "ESC - $250, CCSC - $750".

The ESC internally elects executive board members, including the president. This has been the subject of much controversy over the years. The election rules can only be altered during the annual constitutional review. Several council members have proposed amendments calling for direct elections, so far none have been approved. Several years ago, someone accused the ESC of being insular and that it was only electing current council members to E-board positions. The ESC is also widely criticized by campus news sources such as Bwog and Spectator for holding internal elections.
