Alpha Chi Omega, (A-Chi-O, chi as in ky, not chee), Theta Psi chapter, is one of the sororities recognized by the Panhellenic Council. The chapter currently occupies a brownstone at 114th St.

The chapter earned a 5 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in spring 2013 and was awarded Most Improved Chapter by the Inter Greek Council.

The chapter earned a 4 star ALPHA Standards of Excellence rating in spring 2012. The chapter also earned achievement awards in philanthropy (presented to chapters that raise over $60 per member), community service (presented to chapters that complete over 20 service hours per member), and campus involvement (presented to chapters where over 60% are involved in another campus activity.)

AXO has consistently been one of the top fundraisers for Relay for Life. The Columbia chapter raised $3,657 in 2012 and $10,558 in spring 2013.

Service & Philanthropy
Domestic Violence and Awareness and Support (DVAS)
Nationwide, Alpha Chi Omega’s philanthropic project is Domestic Violence Awareness and Support (DVAS). AXO’s work against domestic violence is founded on two main concepts: fighting against unhealthy relationships and building healthy relationships. The Columbia Theta Psi chapter’s goal is to help educate the campus community on the issue of Domestic Violence, especially in regards to how it affects college students. Every October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the chapter holds events across campus during their “Divas for DVAS week.” The week includes an informative panel on Domestic Violence — featuring students, survivors, and educators — a self-defense class, and other events to raise awareness. One in three women are survivors of Domestic Violence, making the cause incredibly relevant to the lives of collegiate women.

Sanctuary for Families
In addition to AXO’s work with DVAS, the chapter also volunteers locally with Sanctuary for Families, a Harlem-based shelter dedicated exclusively to serving domestic violence survivors, sex trafficking survivors, and their children. Each year, Sanctuary helps thousands of survivors and their children build safe lives by offering a range of high quality services to meet their complex needs. These services include clinical, legal, shelter, children’s and economic empowerment services. Sanctuary also works to end domestic violence and its far-reaching impact through outreach, education, and advocacy. AXO sisters raise money for Sanctuary, hold donation drives for toiletries and other items the shelter may need, and also volunteer directly at Sanctuary’s shelter near campus.

The Rachel B. Swett Foundation
In June 2010, AXO’s Theta Psi chapter suffered a tragic loss when one of their sisters, Rachel B. Swett, passed away in a skiing accident while studying abroad in New Zealand. To honor Rachel, the chapter established a scholarship fund in her name. The Rachel B. Swett Endowment Fund is a nonprofit program under the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation that grants grant merit-based educational assistance scholarship allowance to both undergraduates and alumnae of Alpha Chi Omega in need. Rachel was passionate about studying abroad and traveling the world, so the sisters of AXO aim to fund this scholarship to make these opportunities possible for other sisters. Through fundraising events such as Sweat for Swett fitness classes, direct sponsorship, and donations, the AXO sisterhood works to raise the initial seed money for the endowment by 2015.

Sorority History
Alpha Chi Omega is a national women's organization that enriches the lives of its members through lifetime opportunities for friendship, leadership, learning, and service. AXO was officially established on October 15, 1885 at Depauw University in Greencastle, Indiana by seven young women studying in the School of Music. The symbol, the golden lyre, commemorates and honors the sorority's musical history, and represents its goal to always find harmony in life. Its colors, scarlet red and olive green, were chosen to epitomize AXO's fall founding, and its flower, the red carnation, exemplifies these colors. Sisters of Alpha Chi live by the motto, "Together let us seek the heights," and are constantly striving to learn, achieve, grow, and give back to the community. Today, there are over 130 active chapters of Alpha Chi Omega, over 200,000 initiated sisters, and over 200 alumnae chapters.

The Theta Psi Chapter at Columbia University has been seeking the heights since April 1, 1989 and has fostered a tight-knit community of Real. Strong. Women. on campus for nearly 25 years.

The Engineering Student Council (ESC) represents the interests of undergraduate students in SEAS. Not to be confused with the Engineering Graduate Student Council.

Composition
The ESC consists of three parts: the executive board, the class councils, and the representatives-at-large.

Executive board
* President: Organizes and runs meetings; chief advocate for SEAS student body
* VP Policy: Pursues policy changes; heads policy subcommittee
* VP Finance (née Intergroup): Treasurer of the council; heads co-sponsorship subcommittee
* VP Student Life: Plans campus-wide events for SEAS; heads subcommittee responsible for event planning
* VP Communications: Responsible for all communication and media relations of entire undergraduate engineering population; heads communication committee

Class Councils
* Senior Class Council: Consists of a president, vice-president, and 2 representatives from the senior class.
* Junior Class Council: Consists of a president, vice-president, and 2 representatives from the junior class.
* Sophomore Class Council: Consists of a president, vice-president, and 2 representatives from the sophomore class.
* First-Year Class Council: Consists of a president, vice-president, and 2 representatives from the freshman class.

Representatives at large
* University Senator (1): Fully elected member of the University Senate, although the SEAS undergraduate senator sits ex officio on the ESC, he/she does not report to the ESC, nor does the ESC exercise any statutory or governance authority over any element whatsoever of the University Senate or its elected members.
* Academic Affairs Rep: Works with VP for Policy to pursue policy changes to academic life.
* Student Services Rep: Works with VP for Policy to pursue policy changes to student services such as housing and dining.
* Alumni and Pre-Professional Affairs Rep: Works with CCE to plan events geared towards career/internships. Also works with Columbia Engineering Alumni Association to plan events related to alumni and student interaction.
* Combined Plan "3-2" Representative: Created in 2013, advocates for the 3-2 population.
* Technology Representative: Previously "Director of Technology"; Created in 2008; handles ESC website, represents student body's desires and concerns related to technology on campus, sits in CUIT Student Advisory Committee

Liaisons
The ESC has three official liaison positions to the other undergraduate student councils, with one liaising to CCSC, GSSC, and SGA. In 2010, the council added the position of Sustainability Liaison to liaise with Green Umbrella.

Co-sponsorships
See Joint Council Co-Sponsorship Committee. The large majority of ESC co-sponsorships are run through the JCCC, though other events may be co-sponsored by ESC or its constituent class councils.

In Fall 2013, ESC introduced ESC Project Grants, which are "grants aimed at promoting engineering spirit through engineering projects". Seven student teams were awarded up to $1000 each to work on their own extracurricular engineering projects.

Elections
Since time immemorial, ESC internally elected executive board members, including the president. This was the subject of much controversy over the years, as the election rules can only be altered during the annual constitutional review. Several council members proposed amendments calling for direct elections, but none were approved. Several years ago, someone accused the ESC of being insular and that it was only electing current council members to E-board positions. The ESC was also widely criticized by campus news sources such as Bwog and Spectator for holding internal elections.

In 2011, ESC voted during its annual constitutional review to approve direct elections of its executive board. It was decided the first-such elections would take place in 2012, as time was needed to draft election rules for these positions. Tim Qin SEAS '13 became the first ESC President to be elected by the undergraduate engineering student body.

In 2013, ESC voted during constitutional review to have its elections run by a centralized elections board, the Columbia Elections Board.

In 2018, ESC, together with CCSC, formed the Columbia Elections Commission comprising of three seniors of each council and a commissioner and vice-commissioner not on council. The CEC replaced the now defunct Columbia Elections Board as another iteration in an incredibly rough elections history

The CEC is significantly different in structure from previous elections board, and looks to create a stable and permanent platform for elections.

Current Members
Executive Board
*Interim President: Ben Barton
*Interim Vice President of Finance: Ria Garg
*Interim Vice President of Student Life: Richa Gode

The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science (referred to for branding purposes as Columbia Engineering as of the late 2000s, but almost always informally referred to as SEAS), is the engineering school of Columbia. No one calls it Fu. Ever. It awards degrees in engineering, applied physics and applied mathematics.

The school maintains a close relationship with Columbia College, and undergraduate students from both schools fall under the oversight of the Division of Student Affairs and live in the same dorms.

In 2011-2012, the School's research expenditure was $125 million.

History
SEAS was founded in 1863 by Thomas Egleston Jr. as the School of Mines and then the School of Mines, Engineering and Chemistry before becoming the School of Engineering and Applied Science. It was the country's first such institution. In 1997, the school was renamed in honor of Chinese businessman Z. Y. Fu, who had donated $26 million.

Following Columbia's move to the Morningside Heights campus, the school took residence in Lewisohn Hall and Mathematics Hall, which were then known as Mines and Engineering Halls, respectively. The construction of the Seeley W. Mudd Building in the '60s allowed the school to move into more spacious (though more ugly) quarters on the northeast corner of the main campus. Due to the growth of the school in the past four decades, further expansion was determined necessary, leading to the planning of the Northwest Science Building, which opened in the spring of 2011. SEAS will benefit greatly from the opening of the Manhattanville campus, including 1,000,000 square feet of space being allocated for a new Institute for Data Science.

Departments and faculty members
SEAS is divided into nine departments with a total of 152 members of faculty as follows:
* Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics Department (29)
* Biomedical Engineering Department (19)
* Chemical Engineering Department (10)
* Civil Engineering Department (13)
* Computer Science Department (35)
* Earth and Environmental Engineering Department (15) (formerly "Mining, Metallurgical, and Mineral Engineering (Henry Krumb School of Mines))
* Electrical Engineering Department (20)
* Industrial Engineering and Operations Research Department (16)
* Mechanical Engineering Department (11)

Additional faculty unaccounted for in above departments:
* Computer Engineering (10)
* Materials Engineering (9)
* Other (1)
No one calls it Fu.

* Biomedical Engineering Department (19)
