CUSFS was originally founded in 1966 by Fred Lerner ’66CC, ’81LS as the '''Columbia University Science ''Fantasy'' Society.''' However, the group dissipated soon after Fred's graduation and induction into the Army in June of that year. After returning from the army Fred Lerner returned to Columbia for post-graduate studies. He reformed the club in the summer of 1968 as the '''Fantasy and Science Fiction Society of Columbia University''' (FSFSCU, pronounced "fiss-fiss-cue"). FSFSCU published the fan-zine AKOS and survived into the early 1970s. Empire State University (ESU) is a fictional university in Marvel comics ( primarily relating to [[Peter Parker]], Spider-Man ) representing a mixture between [[Columbia]] and [[New York University]].
