Formerly the site of the football practice field, the new field hockey pitch was built when the installation of FieldTurf in [[Wien Stadium]] in 2005 rendered the field unsuitable for field hockey.<ref>[http://columbiaspectator.com/node/18229 Field Hockey Without Home For '05]</ref> The team spent a season in exile playing at RiverBank State Park and other venues while the new facility was under construction (field hockey homecoming in 2005 was held at Hofstra University in Long Island). <br />

The field features a state of the art synthetic polypropylene surface. Columbia is now the only school in the nation to have a polypropylene surface solely intended for field hockey.<br />
