JAKE was the result of a singular employee rewriting in one weekend the system to be a singular combined entity that became JAKE. The name NINJa came as a joke from the whole GNUs Not Unix era, plus it sounded much cooler as everyone should agree. Therefore, the new name: "Ninja Is Not Jake." Seriously. Some of the graduate schools opt out of NINJa and provide their own system.
