The '''Report of the Presidential Commission on the Future of the University''', titled '''Strategies of Renewal''' was a 183-page report on the arts and sciences published in [[1987]] following three years of study by a commission established in [[1984]] by [[University President]] [[Michael Sovern]]. Among its recommendations were 1) the merger of the CC, GS, GSAS, and SIPA faculties into one Faculty of Arts and Sciences, 2) the merger of the School of the Arts, GSAPP, the J-School, the Library School into the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communication, 3) the merger of the four health sciences faculties, and 4) the creation of common admissions office and staff of deans and counselors for CC and SEAS. It also suggested looking into the possibility of a merger of CC and the SEAS undergraduate division.
