The design mirrored the cleaned up unornamented version of the modern crown that had begun appearing in the mid 1990s with one major change: in a radical departure from over a century of precedent, the Medical Center adopted a crown design without crosses. Instead the crown featured 'secularized' diamonds. The new diamond design was incorporated into the selection of crowns used, somewhat indiscriminately by this point, by the University.
