The '''University Medal for Excellence''' is awarded each year to an alumnus or alumna, under 45 years of age, whose record in scholarship, public service, or professional life is outstanding. Graduates from all divisions of the school (including [[Barnard College]] and [[Teachers College]]) are eligible. Recipients are honored at [[University Commencement]] with a citation and presentation along with the recipients of [[honorary degrees]].

The award has been conferred since 1929 and is given out by the [[Trustees]] committee on honors and prizes and the [[University Senate]] committee on honors and prizes.
