That being said, the fact that the Trustees as an entity have a unique identity separate from Columbia University itself is an interesting proposition (as in "Barnard students are granted their degrees by the Trustees of Columbia, but technically not Columbia University itself.") That would make it just another of the nuanced points in the BC-CU relationship that leaves students on both side of the street unsatisfied (depending on what their point of view is.)
