The Middle East Institute is a center for interdisciplinary scholarship on, you guessed it, the Middle East. It's vaguely affiliated, but stands somewhat apart from, SIPA. Founded in 1954, its main function seems to be organizing bag lunches.

Rashid Khalidi serves as director.
