2005 in Columbia history:

Spring

• February 3: The first Glass House Rocks is held in Lerner Hall
• April 8: Creation of the National Undergraduate Film Festival by Calvin Sun and Brian Foo
• Michelle Oh elected President of the CCSC
• The Sachems prank Lerner Hall with saffron sheets in the style of Christo's "The Gates"
• Grad students strike during finals for the second year in a row; this time joined by sympathizers from Yale. A giant inflatable rat is positioned outside the 116th Street gates.
• Robert Kraft is the keynote speaker at Columbia College Class Day
• The Lacrosse wins a conference game for the first time in team history - after losing its first 55 conference games. The team has yet to win another conference game.

Fall

• Bakergate breaks out as the adminisration limits drinking at football games
• Around 150 students from Tulane University and other gulf coast schools displaced by Hurricane Katrina enroll as visiting students for the semester through Columbia's School of Continuing Education

October

• October: Creation of the Columbia Science, Math and Engineering Secondary School announced
• 15: Roar-ee the Columbia Lion adopted as Columbia's athletic mascot

December

• 2: Ruggles vandalization incident
• 14: the Committee on Global Thought is created
• 15: Norries Wilson named new head football coach
• Subway strike fucks up New York City, but everyone still required to be at Columbia, every day, on time, which is already hard enough on a normal day.
• The Current is first printed

Undated

• Creation of the National Undergraduate Film Festival
• LionLink launched
• Spec launches La Pagina, a weekly Spanish-language insert regarding neighborhood news
• Foundation of hip-hop dance group Onyx
• The Distinguished Columbia Faculty Award is established
• Columbia ceases operations at the Arden Conference Center
