Barnard-Columbia Undergraduate Public Health Society(BCUPHS) was officially recognized in January of 2005 with the support of Dr. Allan Rosenfield, Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health. BCUPHS' mission is twofold: (1) to engage the undergraduate community in public health issues through education and service projects; (2) to provide pre-professional support for students interested in public health careers with medicine, academia, policy, or any other field. BCUPHS is dually recognized by ABC and SGA.

Overview

The mission of the Barnard Columbia Undergraduate Public Health Society is to educate the undergraduate community on public health issues, to support undergraduate public health initiatives, and to serve as a liaison between the Columbia undergraduate community and the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health.

Purpose Statement

Section 1

BCUPHS will increase public health awareness in the undergraduate community by hosting lectures, workshops, and fundraisers and by collaborating with other on-campus organizations to raise awareness about public health issues relevant to that organization.

Section 2

BCUPHS will advocate for students to explore public health issues through research with the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health and the Earth Institute and will aid students in their search for topics, contacts, and resources.

Section 3

BCUPHS will partner with the Mailman School of Public Health in an effort to establish relations with influential public health leaders and will work to provide an undergraduate voice on the prospect of future public health course offerings at the undergraduate level.
