The Nicholas Murray Butler Medals have been awarded every five years to individuals anywhere in the world who have made a distinguished contribution in philosophy or educational theory, practice or administration since 1915. The medals are either Gold, Silver, or Bronze.

They are named for domineering former University President Nicholas Murray Butler.
