The Chanler Historical Prize is a cash prize awarded to the senior who submits the best essay on a topic dealing with the history of civil government in America. The topic to be selected in conjunction with seminar work in one of the social science departments and approved by the chairperson of the Chanler Prize Committee. The prize was established in 1877 by the bequest of J. Winthrop Chanler CC 1847.
