Born and raised in Chicago, Steele went to Hiram College in Ohio on a swimming scholarship. He went on to earn his doctorate in psychology from University of Ohio, and, since then, has taught at many institutions. During his tenure at the University of Michigan, he overlapped briefly with Bollinger. (Steele recalls first meeting his current boss in the UMich gym.) Claude Steele is the Provost of the University and a professor of psychology. He succeeded Alan Brinkley and came from Stanford University. Steele works under Lee Bollinger


Background
