The Columbia University Software Archives is a software mirror hosted by CUIT for use by its own employees, but is accessible to the public. This is a great resource for Linux users to install software through their package managers, as the mirror is accessible through Columbia's local network and therefore software downloads through the mirror do not count towards your bandwidth quota.
