Columbia University Students for Human Rights (also Students for Human Rights or more commonly CUSHR, pronounced cush-er) was founded in spring 2011 and recognized by the SGB in spring 2012. CUSHR is a student-run organization committed to creating a dialogue about human rights on Columbia's campus by hosting speakers, film screenings, and engagement opportunities with professors. Similarly, CUSHR explores opportunities to network with the wider human rights community through site visits, career panels, and many other events. We aim to foster a community that is engaged with, aware of, and active in human rights issues around the globe.
CUSHR serves as the more academic and pre-professional counterpart to Columbia's branch of Amnesty International. It collaborates on speaker events with the Institute for the Study of Human Rights.
