Dwight Carroll Miner CC '26 PhD '40 was a history professor at the university. Valedictorian of his class, he went on to win the Mark Van Doren Award for teaching.

Among his books was a history of Columbia written in 1954 and entitled A History of Columbia at Morningside.

His daughter, Dorothy Marie Miner, received degrees in both law (1961) and urban planning (1972) from the university and was counsel to the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.
