George Stephanopoulos CC '82 was a Rhodes Scholar, an adviser to Bill Clinton, and is now a television news host. He had his own important Sunday morning political talk show, but for some reason decidded to dumb down his life (or maybe smarten up morning TV) by becoming a host of Good Morning America.
At Columbia, Stephanopoulos was a sports broadcaster for WKCR and a member of the wrestling team. He may have been one of the first residents of East Campus. He graduated summa cum laude as salutatorian with a degree in political science, and won a Truman Scholarship. Although he failed to win a Rhodes Scholarship on his first try, he snagged one a year after graduating and headed off to Oxford.
He won a John Jay Award in 1993, returned in 1997-1998 as an assistant professor of poli sci, and gave the 2003 CC Class Day speech.
