Paul Anderer
Paul Anderer was born on April, 16, 1949 in Philadelphia, Pa. and was educated at St, Joseph's Preparatory School (1967), the U. of Michigan (B.A. '71), the U. of Chicago (M.A. '72), and Yale (Ph.D. '79). He taught at Notre Dame before joining the Columbia faculty in 1980. A professor of modern Japanese and comparative literature, he is the author of "Other Worlds: Arishima Takeo and the Bounds of Modern Japanese Fiction" (Columbia U. Press, 1984), and "Literature of the Lost Home: Kobayashi Hideo-- Literary Criticism, 1924-1939" (Stanford U. Press, 1995; paperback edition, 1999). He has served the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures as its Chair (1989-97), and the University as Acting Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, as Director of the Keene Center of Japanese Culture, as Assoc, VP for Academic Planning and Global Initiatives, and as Vice Provost for International Relations. He is married to Mia Takehita Anderer. They have three sons.
