Crazy plans for Prentis Hall

The School of the Arts Building was planned in 2000 as a dramatic expansion of Prentis Hall to accommodate a new home for the School of the Arts, which was cramped in Dodge Hall. The architects of the plan were Sharples, Holden, Pasquarelli (SHoP), disciples of Lerner Hall architect and former GSAPP dean Bernard Tschumi. It would have involved hollowing out Prentis and building a sort of Frank Gehry-esque blob inside the block behind it. The main entrance would have been on Riverside Drive.

The project has most likely been dropped with the revelation that the School of the Arts will get a new building on the Manhattanville campus, but plans to somehow expand Prentis Hall remain on the drawing board.
