Thomas G. Nelford was the perpetrator of the Ruggles murder-suicide in 2000, killing Kathleen Roskot in a Ruggles suite before killing himself by jumping in front of a subway train at the 181st Street Station. Nelford was 23 when the incident occurred; he had dropped out of Columbia two years earlier, in 1998, but continued to hang around the university, especially at various fraternities. A wrestler from Oxnard, California, he was said to have been a talented musician as well.
