How to stay awake

Knowing how to stay awake is a key skill for being a student, and indeed for life.


  • Drink water or soft drinks.
  • Drink coffee or an energy drink.
  • Eat a protein bar.
  • Eat an apple.
  • Eat pungent foods.
  • Eat sunflower seeds that are still in the husk. Crack them open one at a time in your mouth.
  • But don't eat too many.

Physical activity

  • Walk or move around.
  • Go to the bathroom.
  • Wash your face.
  • Brush your teeth.
  • Take a shower.
  • Go for a run.


  • Get some cold air. Open the window.
  • Listen to loud music (with headphones), but not 'easy listening' music.
  • Turn on some lights.
  • Avoid leaning back and lying down, especially on your bed.
  • Dress up in business attire.


  • Switch between activities.
