Sandy Koufax was a left-handed pitcher for the Brookyn/Los Angeles Dodgers from 1955 to 1966. Generally considered one of the greatest Jewish athletes of his time, he notably refused to start Game 1 of the 1965 World Series because it fell on Yom Kippur. Koufax attended GS in 1955; after the final out of the 1955 World Series, he drove to class from Yankee Stadium, and consequently was late for the Dodger celebration party.
