Biography

Alpha Kaba is a "cool guy" brought into this world from the hands of Columbia world-class surgeons at the NewYork–Presbyterian Hospital. Alpha majored in Computer Science from SEAS, class of 2023, thus reclaimed by his birthplace for his undergrad studies. An inherent product of Columbia. BAM! Although from New York City, Alpha was raised in Guinea, his parents' hometown, and thus exposed to a set of epic ascents. Alpha speaks French, Bambara, basic Turkish, a few dialects from Guinea, and English. Double BAM!

Student Council

Alpha was elected to the Engineering Student Council as the Technology Representative for 2022-2023. He served as a member of the Policy and Communications committees.

As a Technology Representative, completed/proposed initiatives include:

  • 30-day MFA Extension for Devices – Initiated, planned, and discussed with CUIT the need for extending the DUO app to "Remember me for 30 days" rather than 24 hours for the university-wide applications.
  • From SSOL to Vergil – Attended meetings with CUIT to urge for the transition from the registrar's old technology, SSOL, to Vergil by advocating for the student body's need for a user-friendly platform for smother future class registrations.
  • Digital ID – Introduced, for the first time, at Columbia, the idea of a digital ID. A digital ID would assume all roles of a physical ID card but in a digitalized format such as a mobile application. A digital ID would enhance our campus's overall security by mitigating ID loss and identity theft and providing more convenience for the student body. This initiative is actively under revision by CUIT.
  • Columbia Health Appointment Initiative – Met with the Undergraduate Student Affairs and advocated for the need for the student body to schedule appointments days in advance. This initiative is awaiting Dean Mak's response.
  • CULPA – Met with the administrators of CULPA.info to resolve issues with the different alias of CULPA and ensure the current CULPA version will be indefinitely maintained for the student body.
  • TheBulletin – Met with the founder of the bulletin.info and discussed the goal for the project and ensured it aligned with the student body's interests in mind.
  • ESC website – Redesigned and maintained the Engineering Student Council website.
  • WikiCU – Attended a meeting with WikiCU administrators along HaYoung and proposed updates and ideas for the site.
