Dwight Carroll Miner CC '26 PhD '40 was a history professor at the university. Valedictorian of his class (and a member of the Senior Society of Sachems), he went on to win the Mark Van Doren Award for teaching in 1965 and a Great Teacher Award in 1971.
Miner edited the 15 volume Bicentennial History of Columbia University, which was published between 1954 and 1957, with volumes dedicated almost each of Columbia's constituent schools. In this regard, he is the forbear of Professor Robert McCaughey, who wrote the 250th anniversary history of the University, "Stand, Columbia" in 2003.
