• March: Norman Finkelstein Speech controversy
• 10th anniversairy of Austin Quigley's deanship of Columbia College honored during Columbia College Days
• The Bwog rises to prominence by beating Spec's housing coverage
• May: The first Spring Pillow Fight is organized
• May 7: SEAS student Richard Ng goes missing, is later discovered to have killed himself by jumping from the Brooklyn Bridge
• John McCain speaks at Columbia College Class Day; students protest with orange "Not in My Name" buttons and umbrellas

• Launch of The Eye as the latest of many attempts at a Spectator magazine insert
• Administration begins providing free beer at football games, in response to Bakergate
• "Stop Being a Pussy" fliers advertising men's club hockey team lead to the team's suspension
• Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad invited to speak during the World Leaders Forum by SIPA dean Lisa Anderson, but is de-invited following (officially) security concerns and (unofficially) because she may not have told President Bollinger beforehand, and some vocal students were outraged

• Debate between Chris Kulawik and Avi Zvi Zenilman on The O'Reilly Factor
• Awarding of the Nobel Prize to Edmund Phelps and Orhan Pamuk
• Boosting financial aid, Columbia replaces loans with grants for all students whose families earn under $50,000 a year

• Ex-Czech President and playwright Václav Havel begins his two months at Columbia as artist-in residence; Lit Hum syllabus temporarily altered to include one of his works
• November: Journalism School students cheat on an ethics exam
• November: Vandals decapitate the statue of George Washington on the facade of St. John the Divine
• Columbia Political Review editor Paul Sonne wins Columbia's first Marshall Scholarship in a long time
• The women's soccer team wins the Ivy League championship against Harvard
