Seth Low Junior College

Seth Low Junior College was a Columbia-created 2 year community college located in Brooklyn. It was designed to serve as a way to reduce the number of children of Jewish immigrants on the Morningside Heights campus. Essentially, once the University had accepted its quota of Jewish kids, the remainder were shunted off to SLJC. In hindsight, it was probably created by Nicholas Murray Butler to complement his campaign to keep Jews off campus.
The school folded in 1939 after CUNY-affiliated community colleges opened in Brooklyn; the School of General Studies was established to reprise SLJC's former role.
It was named for Columbia President Seth Low.
