This article is about the police department. For the Women's Ultimate Frisbee team, see Ultimate Frisbee (women's).

The New York City Police Department (NYPD) is the largest municipal police force in the world. Slang names may include the fuzz and the popo. Local police officers were believed to especially enjoy food from Columbia Cottage, a Chinese restaurant where they were once rumored to dine free (and look the other way when alcohol was served to minors). But Columbia Cottage is sadly gone now, giving the police less to like about the neighborhood. The cops' dislikes include underage drinking, parking violations, and hippies.

The NYPD beat the shit out of protesting Columbia students during the 1968 protests. Later, students and the NYPD enjoyed a more harmonious relationship. For example, Seth Flaxman was once an auxiliary among their ranks.

However, in 2024, as a result of the suppression of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment by the university and the calling in of the NYPD to clear the camp and an occupied Hamilton Hall, the relationship has grown more contentious again.
