The School of the Arts (SoA) is Columbia's fine arts school. It was founded in 1948 and is primarily housed in Dodge Hall with additional studio space in Prentis Hall on 125th Street.

Finding space for the school has long been an issue; the performing arts component was slated to move to the Lincoln Center area in the early 2000s, and a new School of the Arts Building was once planned as a major expansion of Prentis. Currently, the school is slated to be among the first to move to new quarters - specifically, a building nicknamed "The Lantern" - at the center of the new Manhattanville campus.

SoA offers MFA degrees in its four divisions- Writing, Visual Arts, Theatre, and Film.
