John Reeves TC '83 was Athletics Director at Columbia for 13 years. During his tenure he oversaw the renovation of several facilities including Dodge Fitness Center.

Athletic highlights during his tenure included the the 1996 football team's second place finish in the Ivy League, its 8-2 mark the best in over 50 years, the 2002 men's basketball team weekend sweep of Princeton-Penn, Olympian Christina Teuscher commiting to swim for the Lions, and back to back NCAA titles for the fencing team.

Lowlights included the 2002-2003 Basketball and Football seasons when both teams went a combined 0-21 in Ivy League games, resulting in the firing of both coaches, and the revelation in 2004 of a blatant negligence on the part of the central administration and egregious failures on the part of the athletics department to expand facilities.
